Coaching Staff Minimize

2010 Swim Team Coaching Staff

 

                                                                                             

   Head Coach Mike Peters returns to Southampton this summer for his eighth season. A native New Yorker and graduate of Brown University, Mike competed on a national level on the Brown swim team and has coached on the high school, college and US Swimming levels. Mike currently lives in Richmond. He has been working as an assistant coach for the Collegiate swim team. Mike is also completing work on his teaching certification at the University of Richmond.
    Laura Neely is a new addition to our staff. A graduate of NC State, Laura swam for the Wolfpack. She graduates this spring from VCU with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. As a child, Laura swam for Burkwood and year-round for Team Richmond Aquatic Club and Poseidon. Her coaching experience includes two summers at Ashcreek and three summers at Burkwood. Laura also coaches part time for Poseidon. Welcome to the Southampton team, Laura!
    Paul Ream returns this year for his second season as an Assistant Coach and thirteenth season roaming the pool deck at Southampton. A rising junior Political Science major at Davidson College, Paul plays Ultimate Frisbee and works with the International Studies program, among other activities. With one wonderful summer experience under his belt, Paul looks forward to jumping right into a great new season.
    Anne Byrd Mahoney returns for her second season, this year as an Assistant Coach. Anne Byrd has also grown up in our program. A rising sophomore at Washington and Lee University, she plans on majoring in Biology and Spanish.
    Virginia Young will return as an Assistant Coach this year. Virginia is finishing her senior year at Maggie Walker Governor’s School, where she’s served as Senior Class President and captain of her field hockey team. She was also a member of four honor societies and the coordinator of all of the Student Ambassadors, a student-led leadership group. Virginia will be attending Davidson College, where she will study Mathematics and Spanish.
    Dillon Hatch joins the coaching staff this year as an Assistant. Dillon is also a longtime Southampton swimmer and two-year Southampton lifeguard. He swam for Poseidon for six years and for the Fork Union Military Academy team for two years. Dillon taught in a “learn to swim” program offering swim lessons to local children in the Fork Union/Fluvanna County area. He also assisted with the Poseidon fall clinic this year. Dillon graduates this spring from James River High School. This fall, he will attend Bridgewater College, where he plans to study History and Political Science.
