On Their Own: An Independent Living Workshop, Ages 13--18
Is your child headed off to college this fall or in a few short years? Does she know how to balance a checkbook, mend a button, shop and prepare an economical but tasty meal? Has he ever had to change a tire? Does she know how to check the oil and water in the car? Can he wash his own clothes?
Don’t panic! Karmalita Bawar is here to help with this new-to-SRA, three-day workshop that will help your teen learn some basic life skills to prepare them as they grow up and move out on their own. The workshop will include field trips to the laundry mat, mechanic and grocery store, and the teens will be given play money and will learn how to spend wisely. $30.
Dates & Time: June 27, June 28 & July 1, 12:30–2:30 p.m.
Basketball Camp, Ages 9 & Up
We’re excited to have J.B. Brown, father of Jake and Makenzie, return to coach this fun basketball camp. Spend 45 minutes on skills and technique, then scrimmage and practice for the second 45 minutes. This is a great opportunity for beginner and intermediate players to work on and improve their skills. It’s lots of fun, lots of hard work, and lots of ball!
Coach Brown played basketball in high school and for Virginia Union. He coached the J.F. Kennedy basketball team for 25 years and has attended basketball camps with Julius “Dr. J” Erving and Charles Barkley. J.B. has helped coach the Trinity Episcopal School Varsity girls basketball team for three great seasons. Sorry, no participants younger than nine; both boys and girls welcome. 20 participants. Bring a good ball and some water. $45 per week.
Session 1: June 27–July 1, 12:30–2 p.m.
Session 2: August 22–26, 10–11:30 a.m.
