Sports Camps Minimize

Sharks & Minnows, Ages 8 & Up

Meet your friends in the diving well for some pool fun every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Must be a strong swimmer; this is an active time. No need to sign-up; just show up and have fun. Free.
Dates & Time: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning June 7, 2–3 p.m.

Sports Camp, Ages 4--6

Young sports enthusiasts will love learning new games skills with sports camp extraordinaire counselor Abby Turner. Abby is a veteran of sports camps at Collegiate under the guidance of her dad, Robby Turner. She’ll have your youngster running and playing. Helper Dell Hudgins will provide high energy support and punster jokes that only 4-6 year olds can appreciate. Wear comfortable clothes and send your child with a water bottle. Questions? Contact Abby Turner at aturner@collegiate-va.org. 12 participants. $35.
    Dates & Time: June 21–25, 1–2 p.m.

Basketball Camp, Ages 9 & Up

We’re excited to have J.B. Brown, father of Jake and Makenzie, return to coach this fun basketball camp for girls and boys. Spend 45 minutes on skills and technique, then scrimmage and practice for the second 45 minutes. This camp is a great opportunity for beginner and intermediate players to work on and improve their skills. It’s lots of fun, lots of hard work, and lots of ball!
Coach Brown played basketball in high school and for Virginia Union. He coached the J.F. Kennedy basketball team for 25 years and has attended basketball camps with Julius “Dr. J” Erving and Charles Barkley. J.B. has helped coach the Trinity Episcopal School Varsity girls basketball team for two great seasons. Sorry, no participants younger than 9; both boys and girls welcome. 20 participants. Bring a good ball and some water. $45 per week.

    Session 1: June 28–July 2, 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
    Session 2: August 23–27, 10–11:30 a.m.

Private Basketball Lessons
Camp not enough for you? Need some one-on-one with the coach? Whether you want to perfect a move or just have some serious focus on improving your skills, Coach Brown (355-2565) can help. Private lessons are $30/hour. Buy three one-hour sessions for only $75.

SRA Rafting Day with Riverside Outfitters, Ages 11 & Up

Riverside Outfitters will pick up all pre-registered rafters at the SRA Clubhouse at 8:45 a.m. sharp. Then it’s off to the Reedy Creek section of the James River Park System for the put-in. We’ll hit the bigger water downtown (Class II and III...maybe a IV), stopping for snacks and drinks along the way, and then finish up at the 14th St. whitewater takeout at the bottom of historic Shockoe Slip. We’ll then shuttle all rafters back to SRA by about 1 p.m. More details are available upon registration.
There are 20 seats available on each of the two trips, so it’s first-come, first-served by calling Riverside Outfitters at 560-0068. All participants must weigh at least 90 pounds and be a good swimmer. See you on the water! $43 (reflects a 20% discount for SRA members).

    Trip 1: Tuesday, July 13, 8:45 a.m.–1 p.m.
    Trip 2: Tuesday, August 10, 8:45 a.m.–1 p.m.

There’s More to Come!
We’re still busy planning great activities for children this summer. Watch your e-mail for information about these fun classes and social opportunities:

♣    Volleyball Tourneys in our brand-new volleyball pit.
♣    Basketball 3-on-3s—hopefully a regular Saturday feature on the court.
♣    Toddler Playgroups—in the morning or afternoon, with coffee for the moms.
♣    Bingo
