Stroke-specific Swim Clinics, Ages 8--15

Do you want to improve your technique in breaststroke and butterfly or work on your racing technique? Lifelong SRA swimmer Stuart Ferguson is offering two small group stroke clinics that will focus on under-standing, developing and refining proper swim technique of these difficult strokes. This year, Stuart is adding a third clinic dedicated to fine-tuning the key elements of racing: starts, turns and finishes. Stuart is a three-year member of the US National Junior swim team and will be swimming this fall for Auburn University, the 2009 NCAA Champions. 8 participants per clinic. $25 per clinic or $70 for all three.
    Breaststroke Clinic: Sunday, June 14, 5–6 p.m.
    Butterfly Clinic: Sunday, June 21, 5–6 p.m.
    Starts, Turns & Finishes: Sunday, July 12, 5–6 p.m.

Basketball Camp, Ages 8--15

We are excited to have J.B. Brown, father of Jake and Makenzie, return to coach this fun basketball camp. J.B. played basketball in high school and for Virginia Union. He coached the J.F. Kennedy basketball team for 25 years and has attended basketball camps with Julius “Dr. J” Erving and Charles Barkley. This past year, he helped coach the Trinity Episcopal School Varsity girls basketball team to an awesome season. This is a great opportunity for beginner and interme-diate players to work on and improve their skills. Sorry, no participants younger than 8. $30 per clinic.
    Dates & Time: June 22–26, 3–4 p.m.

Underwater Hockey, Ages 10 & Up

Laura Hogan’s brother, Brian Viggiano, comes all the way from Baltimore to lead this fun class. Participants compete by pushing and passing a puck along the bottom of the pool to score goals. Most dives are 15-30 seconds, within the capabilities of most moderately proficient swimmers. Underwater hockey is a non-contact sport, without charging, holding or other physical contact. This, along with its swimming-based nature, allows everyone—large or small—to enjoy the game.
Participants will need a mask, snorkel and fins. Gloves and sticks are included and can be kept by the students. Most serious underwater hockey players wear Speedos, but  swimming trunks will work fine. Girls should wear one-piece bathing suits. 5--20 participants. $20.
Dates and Time: June 27 and 28, 1–2 p.m. (meet at the upper pool)

Hip Hop/Zumba Combo, Ages 10--15

Wanna dance? Join local dance instructors from Bon Air Dance and Pilates as they lead this week-long camp combing the popular, high-energy “street style” hip hop dance with the equally popular, fast-moving Latin Zumba. This promises to be lots of fun. Wear comfortable clothes. $40.
    Dates & Time: July 13–17, 2–3:30 p.m.
